Strategic alliance with Maybank to accelerate growth of ACNielsen panel

ACNielsen has announced the launch of its Your Voice online panel in Malaysia. The Malaysian launch brings the total number of Your Voice Internet panels in Asia to ten, with a cumulative panel member base of over 300,000 .

This initiative started seven years ago with the acquisition of www.consult.com, followed by the establishment of Your Voice access pools across Asia to complement ACNielsen’s broad array of research methodologies. “As the Internet landscape continues to evolve globally, and Internet penetration rates gather pace in developing markets, ACNielsen is embarking on a new and interesting phase with the availability of large panels of Internet users available for regular market surveys,” commented Stephen Watt, Managing Director of ACNielsen Malaysia.

Based on the latest statistics released by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in Quarter 3 of 2006, it is estimated that potentially at least five in ten or, almost 12 million Malaysia people are now connected online. The growing internet penetration rate and efforts by the local government to encourage greater adoption of internet usage is luring research savvy marketers to conduct their local and international research via the Internet.

The launch of Malaysia’s Your Voice panel will see ACNielsen form a strategic alliance with Maybank, with ACNielsen working closely with www.Maybank2u.com, the online banking arm, to recruit Your Voice online panelists.

Commenting on this alliance, Mr. Watt said, “We are delighted to have Maybank as our first partner, given their current standing as a major local bank with the largest online banking customer base, according to ACNielsen’s 15th Malaysia Online Financial Service Report 2H 2005. The partnership will build on each other’s strengths – Maybank’s trusted customer base, and ACNielsen’s professionally managed Your Voice panel.” (Refer to Chart 1)

Under this arrangement, www.Maybank2u.com customers and portal visitors will be linked and redirected to ACNielsen’s Your Voice portal upon clicking on a banner ad in Maybank’s online banking portal.

“Your Voice is designed to supplement existing research tools rather than replace them. The benefits of online research include speed, coverage, and a more engaging experience for respondents. Added to that, it affords greater flexibility through audio or visual features that would not have been previously possible through face-to-face or telephone interviews” continued Mr. Watt.

Panelists are recruited mainly from campaigns and strategic tie-ups such as the one with Maybank, as well as other offline and online methods. ACNielsen’s Measurement Science experts are also involved in ‘balancing’ and the roll-out to ensure the availability of a good sample. “We’ve developed these standards to ensure our clients are receiving actionable consumer insights based on a good quality, online sample,” Mr. Watt further added. ACNielsen Your Voice Malaysia is expected to hit 10,000 panel members by the end of 2007.

Your Voice panel members earn points each time they complete a survey and redeem them for a range of gift items or charitable contributions in kind.
