According to a study done by Influential Brands®, Malaysian FMCG brands; Julie’s Biscuits, Ah Huat White Coffee, Hup Seng as well as F&B brands; The Manhattan Fish Market and PappaRich, rule the list of Top Asian Brands preferred by consumers in Singapore.

In addition, Singaporean consumers also declared their love for other Malaysian brands such as: AirAsia (low cost carrier), Royal Selangor (luxury pewter), Resorts World (integrated resort), Hatten Group (property developer) and SP Setia (property developer).

Other regional brands* which topped the minds of consumers in Singapore include Samsung, Watsons, Din Tai Fung, Toyota and Uniqlo among others.

The list is based on a consolidated research conducted from 2013 to 2015. The study on more than 4,000 consumers nationwide fielded brands from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea and Malaysia.

Due to the close proximity and free trading efforts between the two nations, most companies in Malaysia penetrate into Singapore as their first overseas market as part of growing the growth plans. Therefore, Malaysia brands have gained strong brand recall amongst Singapore consumers for their nostalgic attachment, strong branding and exposure in Singapore.

“There is still an appeal for Asian brands amidst the influx of international brands in Asia as a result of globalisation and internationalisation. Singapore and Malaysia have a shared history and culture with longstanding business relations”, Jorge Rodriguez, Director of Strategy, Influential Brands started to explain.

“Consumers look to old-familiars like Ah Huat and Julie’s Biscuit for their nostalgia and value while PappaRich offers Singapore consumers the best of hawker traditions in a modern setting. AirAsia, which pioneered low-cost travel in the region a decade ago, continues to blaze trails with consistent adding of new destinations, products and services”, he said.
